GTF Thrombosis

Alfonso Tafur, MD 

​Dr. Tafur is currently a Vascular Medicine Director at the NorthShore University Health Systems at the NorthShore Cardiovascular Institute, Skokie, IL, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Chicago, and a member of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) Team.  He is the Secretary of the Scientific Committee of the International Union of Angiology (IUA), and a Founding member/member of the Board of Directors of the PACO Foundation.

​Jawed Fareed, PHD 
Dr. Fareed is a Professor of Pathology and Pharmacology, Consultant Hematology Section, Consultant Cardiology Section, Director of Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Laboratories at the Loyola University Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). He has been an Editorial Consultant to several Scientific Societies and journals and advisory committees. Dr. Fareed has published numerous scientific articles. Dr. Fareed started the High School Scholar’s Day at Loyola to honor the GTF Interns.

John Fanikos, RPh, MBA.

Mr. Fanikos is the Director of Pharmacy Business and Financial Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, MA, and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy Practice at Northeastern University and at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy (MCP).  Mr. Fanikos has served in a number of different roles at BWH, including investigational drug pharmacist, John is a member of the National Comprehensive Network (NCCN) panel that crafts guidelines for the treatment and prevention of thromboembolic disease. John is the Treasurer and a Board member of the North American Thrombosis Forum (NATF).

Margaret Callahan, CRNA, PhD, FNAP, FAAN
Dr. Callahan is a highly qualified nurse with several degrees (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, CRNA; Forum of Nurses in Advanced Practice, FNAP; Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, FAAN, and PhD). She is the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Innovation, Loyola University Chicago.  With a strong background in research, she is an author of numerous original publications, abstracts, posters, and chapters in books. She has been a big admirer of the GTF students and their activities and has routinely attended GTF events.

Joseph A. Caprini, MD, MS, FACS, RVT, FACCWS, DFSVS
Emeritus, NorthShore University HealthSystem, Evanston, IL
Senior Clinician Educator, Pritzker School of Medicine, Chicago, IL.  Dr. Caprini is the inventor of the World Famous Caprini Score, a founding member of the PACO Foundation, and has been very much interested in the GTF students and activities.

Samuel Goldhaber, MD
Dr. Goldhaber is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is the President of the North American Thrombosis Forum (www.natfonline.org), an elected member of numerous scientific societies, member of numerous advisory committees, an Editorial Consultant to several Scientific Societies and journals and advisory committees. Dr. Goldhaber has been a regular advisor to GTF, and was instrumental in giving an affiliate status of NATF to GTF.
